From the French and Indian War to the beginnings of the American Revolution, this decade saw many events that would shape the future of the nation. The 1760s were a time of great change and upheaval in American history. Other significant events of the 1760s included the passage of the Townshend Acts in 1767, which imposed new taxes on goods imported into the colonies, and the Boston Tea Party of 1773, in which a group of colonists dumped tea into Boston Harbor to protest British taxation policies. ![]() It also helped to galvanize support for independence among those who had previously been on the fence. The incident further inflamed anti-British sentiment among colonists, who saw it as evidence of British tyranny. During a confrontation between soldiers and an angry mob, shots were fired that resulted in several deaths.
